Meet Zip

A tail that swings wide

Zip is a lime-green gecko with a cream belly and a wide, amused smile. His big amber eyes sit high on a flat wedge of a head, and his hands have three fanned toes that end in round brown pads. He skates the way Drift does, with one push on every beat, but on wheels instead of blades. On a turn, his head looks in first and his tail swings wide.

Zip up close

This is Zip as the game draws him, rendered big. Look for the four wheels under each coral boot and the round brown pads on the tips of his fingers.

In Tempo Line

How Zip skates the line

Zip skates with one push on every beat, in a stride of two beats. His wheels turn with the distance he covers, so a wheel on the path rolls without slipping. At each corner his head looks in first, and his tail swings out and lags behind. At Presto speed he leans further, crouches deeper and swings his arms wider.

At the finish he stands tall with his hands up in a V, then hops twice, turning right round on the second hop.

Colour
Paints his two skate boots. His lime skin never changes, and the frames and wheels stay dark.
Hats
Every hat in the Shop fits him, and rides his head in every pose.
Glasses
They perch on his snout. Try a pair on in 3D on the Characters screen first.
Trails
A trail streams out behind his skates.

In Tempo Line, Zip’s skates change how he looks, not how he plays: he is as wide on the path as everyone else, so no character is easier to play.

On the racer select

Zip is one of the Light racers: quick off the line and easy to bump about. Top speeds sit so close together that how you drive matters more than who you pick. His skates stay behind for the kart, and his voice is all bright, rapid squeaks and light hups.
